Live musical programs were the foundation of WDAY’s early days of broadcasting.
By the 1950’s, as pre-recorded music came more into vogue, WDAY still featured live musicians on shows with titles like Swing Shop, Jam for Supper, Matinee for Moderns, Pop Tunes at Five and Modern Harmonies with the Phil Rito Trio.
On Wednesday nights, the Phillips 66 Radio Revue sampled WDAY’s talent base. Here is a portion of a Radio Revue broadcast from May 2nd, 1952 and features accordionist Phil Rito.
This radio clip from 1949 was delightful. I’ll bet my Mother (Marcy Bruns) was glued to the radio listening to it all. By the way, who was the radio announcer?
The announcer was Ken Kennedy
This is great check up and enjoy the old days.
