Evening Serenade was one of the many musical variety shows that originated from the studios of WDAY, and it’s one that remained popular throughout the 1940’s. Here is the introduction to the program from Sept. 22, 1946.
As with many of WDAY’s locally produced shows that “had legs”, like Tello Test Time and The Radio Revue, the theme song went through several transformations over the years. This is the original theme, as composed by Frank Scott.
Richard Diamond Private Detective radio series starred Dick Powell and aired on NBC from 1949 to 1950.
The shows were written by Blake Edwards. Its theme, “Leave It to Love”, was whistled by Powell. Here’s a sample of an episode that aired on WDAY in December of 1950.
